Valentines Inspiration – ALSO Home’s Cool Couple List
With Valentines Day around the corner we’ve been thinking a lot about couples that we admire and why. From the ‘Mouses’ to the Obamas and a few in between – at ALSO Home HQ we delve into what makes these couples our favourites.
After a lot of deliberation, here’s our rundown of the six coolest, most stylish, cutest, head over heels power couple in history.
1. Mickey & Minnie Mouse
Lovers, co-creatives and lifelong friends, since first debuting in Steamboat Willie in 1928, Mickey and Minnie as a couple has stood the test of time for decades upon decades, with the perfect pair as much loved-up today as they were back then. Have you found the Mickey to your Minnie?
2. Ricky Ross & Lorraine McIntosh
Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh from Scottish Pop Rock Band ‘Deacon Blue’ have been married for 26 years now (the same as our very own Barry!). He is seen as one of the best songwriters around and she has an incredible voice (and hasn’t aged in the past two decades)! This couple have brought up 3 children the right way, despite being surrounded by industry excess.
3. Barack & Michelle Obama
This adorable couple are not scared to show their love, no matter what the situation. Marking two and a half decades of wedded bliss , the former First Lady uploaded a throwback to their October 1992 nuptials, tweeting, “Happy 25th anniversary @barackobama. A quarter of a century later, you’re still my best friend & the most extraordinary man I know. I love you.” During his White House tenure, he made sure that he was home for supper at 6.30 every evening (when he wasn’t travelling of course) so he could see his family – he would say it kept his life in perspective. Unlike past presidents and first ladies, the Obamas have always been very public about their love, respect and admiration for each other.
4. Nick Offerman & Megan Mullally
He’s the genius behind Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation. She’s the genius behind Karen on Will & Grace. But Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally are even more genius as a couple, married since 2003 and touring together for the Epix network’s Summer of 69: No Apostrophe variety special based on that marriage. We love how they are unapologetically themselves around each other.
5. Queen Victoria & Prince Albert
The marriage between the two first cousins – the young Queen and the clever, handsome German prince – was a love match. Over 17 years, nine children were born: four boys and five girls. This couple were very much in love and lived the most high profile of lives. Very strong, powerful characters, enough so that ITV created the series ‘Victoria’ with an all star cast that has been a huge success. Victoria would not have built the Albert memorial in such a grand scale without true feelings.
6. Pattie Boyd & Eric Clapton
It was the one of the most extraordinary love triangles in British music history, almost destroying the friendship of two music legends. One of the original 1960s ‘It Girls’, Pattie Boyd was a regular cover girl for Vogue and lived just down the road from us in Guildford, Surrey. After leaving George Harrison for his close friend Eric Clapton, some fantastic songs were written with Boyd as Claptons muse, most notably “Layla” in which he proclaims his love.
