Featured Stockist – &hobbs, Shere
Situated in Shere, a pretty picture-postcard village in Surrey you will find this month’s stockist spotlight – &hobbs.
&hobbs is a store that celebrates creativity and mindfullness. Nestled in the Surrey Hills, in the old forge in Shere, &hobbs sells a beautiful edit of artisan homewares, furniture and bath products from both small independent makers and larger brands. Libby (the lovely owner) wanted to be a part of the local community and hosts many workshops, yoga sessions and pop ups in her shop space. There are so many reasons to pop by to Shere, but here are Libby’s top tips.
Best place for lunch:
Set in a teeny village we are super lucky to have TWO great pubs and The Dabbling Duck cafe, all having great grub! The Dabbling Duck are my daily go-to with the most incredible chefs and menu, it’s hard not to eat something mind blowingly yummy! Their specials are not what you’d imagine from such a little village cafe! It’s a must!
Best place for coffee:
Their new sister cafe The Plucky Pheasant on the top of Newlands Corner is my favourite coffee stop as the view up there is INSANE! The most wonderful views all across the valley and with yummy pancakes and hot chocolate it’s a great place to sit outside and chill. Then just pop over the road for walks with the pups and little people. Many moments where I am so thankful for where we live when I’m up there!
Back in the village itself, I am surrounded by beautiful countryside and the most stunning architecture. Lots of Tudor and Victorian houses create a wonderful setting and aesthetically pleasing backdrop for our little store. The store is within the original Forge of the village and with our furnace still in use we hold on to a rough around the edges vibe whilst creating an environment to inspire and to be cozy within with clean home styling and layers of ethical and handmade interiors.
Best walk nearby:
Shere Village has the Tillingbourne river running through it which you can follow on the prettiest walks. I guess that’s my hidden gem…as you follow Lower Street away from the village you get to see the Shere allotments which are spectacular, from there follow the tracks to walk though fields full of horses, through fords and into the woods where, if you look hard enough you will find the swing. My happy place. Becoming a ten-year-old little girl again swinging from an old tree looking up on to the Surrey Hills. It’s the dream.
All of these spots where featured in a little film called ‘The Holiday’…you may not have heard of it.. HA! THAT Christmas movie must-watch was based in Shere and there are many scenes that you’ll recognise when exploring this little gem out of London.
(Follow my little walk directions and cross the bridge that Cameron Diaz drags her suitcase over!!)
Favourite ALSO Home piece:
My favourites from the ALSO HOME collection are the table linens. Particularly the black linen napkins. I know that this is a super simple choice, and I could rattle off many products which are a must (ahum….Kibo wooden bench), however it’s the simplicity and the quality of these that I adore. Always fast to sell out in store because they are the perfect everyday treat for your home. Stylish, beautifully made and an item that you will use everyday and consider a treat. They also make a lovely gift too when coupled with a piece of handmade tableware.
