Featured Stockist – Union House Whitstable
Have you visited Whitstable before? ALSO Home is more than just the 10 staff that work here, we have over 100 stockists across the UK who also champion the brand and we thought it was about time we gave them a little shout out. Once a month (if we can sort ourselves out) we will be shining the spotlight on some of our fabulous stockists and their unique neighbourhoods.
First up on our tour is the seaside town of Whitstable, where you will find Union House. Whitstable is like no other town by the sea. Famed for it’s oysters, traditional charms and maritime history, it’s a popular weekend haunt for the London crowd. We caught up with Bara and Jay to chat all things Whitstable.
Where is the best place for brunch?
Farm & Harper – we love their food and branding, perfect place for a quick brunch and it’s kids friendly!
Best place for coffee?
Blueprint Coffee & Books – literally the best coffee ever! Dan & Cath (the owners) started from the back of their van outside Whitstable Train Station, where I first met them on my daily commute to London. They still serve coffee there but has also opened a lovely coffee bar in the town.
What’s the best view on this part of the coast?
Tankerton Slopes, where you can see Whitstable to the left, Herne Bay to the right and straight on The Isle of Sheppy and on a good day South End beyond that.
Candle lit dinner hot spot?
The Sportsman in Seasalter – amazing Michelin star food in coastal pub setting, be prepared to book well in advance!
Whitstable is renounced for oysters, where can you get the best catch?
The Whitstable Oyster Company by far have the best oysters in the area, you can either dine in or just grab a handful of fresh oysters from their hut on the beach front, where you can choose yours and watch them being opened. Our favourite combo is with tabasco.
What’s your favourite ALSO Home piece in Union House?
It’s hard to pick as we love all your products but we have a soft spot for your tassel cushion with your lovely quotes 😊
What is your hidden gem in Whitstable? A place people might not know about.
Continental Hotel Whitstable – A perfect spot after work where you can sit outside on the terrace and watch the sunset with a cheeky glass of something cold (a favourite place of ours to get sun burnt without knowing, I blame the wine!)
Other great places to visit:
Frank, great cards books and much more
The whiting post, womens clothing and accessory store with a unique vintage feel
Graham Greener – a lovely bespoke florist, with gardenware and lifestyle
Wheelers Oyster bar – amazing food and take away counter with a compact dining experience that shouldn’t be missed, very iconic pink shop front. You take your own drinks and a good bet is The Offy for a great selection of wines and beer
