Wedding Gift List – Insider Tips
The Wedding Gift List Unwrapped
Last month we brought you ‘The ALSO Home Wedding Table Guide’ and so to continue the theme, this month we wanted to talk about the Wedding Gift List.
Compiling a wedding gift list can be quite daunting – we’ve been there! Unless you want to spend your married life enjoying 5 kettles, 4 cake knives and 3 toasters that people gift you, it may be time to turn your attention to a wedding gift list service.
With so much choice on offer, it can be a little confusing to know where to start. There are plenty of great gift lists available online, and you can find ALSO Home available in many of them. Or of course you can go it alone and cherry pick which brands and pieces you would love in your home.
Having a wedding gift list is a once-in-a-lifetime wish list that someone else pays for! What’s not to love?!
So first up, what should you think about when putting together your wedding gift list?
Variety of Values
Consider adding gifts with a variety of values; some guests will be able to afford more than others, so ensure you’ve got plenty of options on there. You might find older family members want to splurge so it’s definitely worth popping some lovely luxuries on there too.
Upgrade your essentials
Made to last
It’s time to replace those Ikea pots and pans you’ve had since Uni. Yes, they’ve just about lasted the past few years, but maybe it’s time to upgrade? Think about your ceramics, the cracks and chips. If you’re wanting a full dinner set, the price can add up, so instead of footing the cost yourselves, pop it on the gift list! Electrics are also worth looking at from reputable companies that you won’t have to replace for many years.
Ask the experts…
We caught up with Ali Beaven, Creative Director of Prezola – the UK’s leading independent wedding gift list service – to see what she has to say about all things wedding gift list.
What are the top 5 items that are added to a wedding gift list?
There are a few crowd favourites that everyone loves: white or cream dinnerware like the ALSO Home Krem collection (pictured above), Sonos speakers and LSA glasses. The iconic KitchenAid mixer always gets added to gifts along with unforgettable days out from Virgin Experience.
Do you ever find trends within what people choose on their lists?
Couples still love to entertain with dinnerware, cocktail sets and games. Technology is also popular with smart home gifts flying off registries such as Amazon Echo, Google Home, Hive and Phillips Hue.
What advice would you give a couple struggling to put together their list?
Always add gifts that YOU want, not what you think you should have. Friends and family love to buy a present that they think “that is SO them”, and don’t be afraid to go for big ticket items like a KitchenAid, Smeg fridge or Samsung TV. With group gifting, friends and family can split the cost of a gift contributing an amount of their choice.
Some couples tend to add everything that catches their eye to their gift list and then whittle it down later. It makes sense as you’ll want to add all of the gifts you like, and then sit down with your partner afterwards to discuss the things you REALLY need. Others tend to add the everyday necessities such as towels and dinnerware first to make sure they have the basics, and then branch out to fun and quirky gifts that reflect their style.
We hope this has been helpful for you!
