Luxury Holiday Destinations – The Hot List

We love a good holiday – who doesn’t? Now might not be the best time to look at luxury holiday destinations as the kids have just broken up from school but as everyone’s Instagram fills up with the familiar sights of Santorini and the Amalfi Coast we couldn’t help but delve into a travel black hole.

We decided to blog about our favourite luxury holiday destinations from around the world. Breath-taking views, interiors you don’t want to leave, and a hotel like nothing we’ve ever seen before – We bring you the ALSO Home hot-list of hotels.

The Amangiri Resort – USA

luxury holiday destinations

Amangiri is a desert oasis in the middle of Utah. This resort is well known as one of the must-visit luxury holiday destinations in the world.

Situated 4.5 hours from Las Vegas, the Amangiri resort is a hidden treasure, tucked (quite literally) into the rocks. Built from Entrada sandstone, the hotel fits into the landscape effortlessly. Built to work with nature, not against it, it allows guests to feel at home with the surroundings.

The aesthetic is modern and sleek but beautiful. It’s minimalist but done in a warm way with inviting textures and neutral tones. Simple lines, concrete walls and the neutral palette harmonise beautifully with the sand, buttes and brush its nestled in. The owners and architects behind the resort camped for weeks on the land to understand the landscape and to be certain it’s footprint would take full advantage of the area’s natural structures.

Protected from the outside world, this “secret” hotel is the ideal getaway, whether you love adventures or would prefer a relaxing stay, every desire is met with extravagance.

Casa Cook – Greece

luxury holiday destinations

Casa Cook is the new(ish) concept of Thomas Cook, one of the biggest travel companies in Europe. A contemporary adult-only lifestyle hotel that perfectly blends elegance, local flavour and chic bohemian style. Minutes away from the Aegean Sea, the boutique hotel is surrounded by rocky mountains and vegetation, helping guests feel closer to nature.

This ultra-cool resort was created by Berlin-based design agency Lambs & Lions, interior designer Annabell Kutucu, architect Vana Pernari and photographer Georg Roske – all working their magic to turn this hotel in the small seaside town of Kolymbia into a stylish gem. It’s pared-back luxury at its finest. A little bit boho, a little bit coastal, with a good dose of contemporary thrown into the mix – and viola – it’s a recipe for success. From hand-picked accessories, to the super-stylish bedrooms, this splendid hotel really is at the height of luxury.

Ett Hem – Sweden

Technically speaking, Ett Ham is a hotel. But it’s unlike any hotel that you’ve ever stayed in before. Located in one of our favourite cities of Stockholm, Ett Hem literally translates into ‘A Home’ and that pretty much sums up its concept. Albeit an incredible home with interiors by British design star (and founding editor of Elle Decoration) Ilse Crawford. This hotel reinvents the concept of a luxury stay.

A stylish temple to Nordic cosiness, there is no sense of formality here. The guests and staff are like old friends.

Ett Ham resides in a mansion built in 1910, and the hotel’s design shows how it might have looked in its day, with candlelit, parquet-floored drawing rooms furnished with contemporary and vintage Scandinavian furniture – an impeccable mix of vintage, modern and bespoke that is so liveable and so covetable.

Hotel Les Roches Rouges – France

luxury holiday destinations

Perched right on the water’s edge sits this modernist and chic and yet understated hotel – Les Roches Rouges.

Designed in an authentic Provencal colour palette of azure blue, white and ochre red and an aesthetic that is 50s modernist, this low-key hotel is for people who love the French Riviera, minus the flashy glitz of neighbouring St Tropez and Cannes.  It’s been architecturally built to maximise the sea and garden at any time of the day using materials such as polished concrete, aged oak and of course terracotta. The interiors are glam Scandi meets mid-century modern, simplistic and understated. Design is of the essence at Les Roches Rouges.
