Family Fun for Half Term!
Half Term Family Fun!
It’s that time again! Half term is here and it’s time for some family fun. Whether the weather is good or bad, this week I’m sharing a few of my favourite family pastimes to keep you AND the kids entertained!
Foraging is great fun for all the family. If it’s raining, pack your waterproofs and wellies but if the sun is shining pack up a picnic and make a day of it. Make a list of everything you might like to look for and make a plan to bake a cake with your goodies or maybe a tasty tipple. In May you’ll find Garlic, Elderflower and Sweet Cicely – a great accompaniment to Rhubarb! Don’t forget to take your Trug Tray to gather up your finds!
Board Game Bonanza
Limit screentime over the school break and gather all the family round for an afternoon showing off your competitive sides by playing some of your favourite boardgames – it’s all about having fun. Games like Scrabble, Uno, Cluedo and Monopoly are great for the older kids; whilst KerPlunk, Snakes and Ladders and Twister are ideal for all ages! Set yourselves up in the garden with plenty of cushions if the sun is shining!
Build a Den
A pastime we all love, no matter how old we are. Gather up throws and blankets, push your sofas and chairs together and build the biggest Den you can. Or create forts and play Dungeons and Dragons!
There’s always a good reason to bake. Sweet treats or savoury goodies, I love to create something from scratch in the holidays. Victoria sponge with handpicked strawberries is a favourite in our household. Make it, bake it and retire to your newly built den for ‘books and bakes’ – a great way to get your kids to finish their reading assignments before the holidays really kick in! You can’t beat a Victoria sponge on a black serving plate.
Nothing beats a night in with plenty of popcorn served in a fun spotty hand painted bowl and a family film. Our favourites include Pete’s Dragon, Finding Nemo and Harry Potter. Or set up a movie marathon on a rainy day with trays of snacks and mugs filled with hot chocolate and marshmallows. Yes please!
