How to use velvet in your home.
We have loved velvet for a while here at Also Home having run a range of velvet cushions for a while. Velvet is having quite a comeback in interiors at the moment and it’s being used in many different ways. We are seeing it on bed linen, curtains, headboards, chairs, sofa’s, cushions and accessories. The amazing thing about velvet is how it shows off colour. The intensity of colour when velvet is dyed is what makes it so luxurious and sumptuous. It looks amazing in soft colours, neutrals or brighter colours. You can choose from a super luxe viscose velvet which has an amazing sheen to it, or a matt cotton velvet. Both are great dependant on the look of your home.
Velvet is generally opulent and a statement piece, but it can be paired back in a Scandinavian home by using grey velvet for a sofa or accessories with just a bright pop of colour in cushions. Velvet layers up perfectly with linen, cotton, silk and shows off it’s versatility as a fabric in so many different settings.
A fantastic colour which has caught our eye recently and that has been a new addition to our velvet cushion range is teal. It compliments neutrals and grey colourways but also brighter pops of lime and coral for a Scandi pop story. The shade of teal that you use can be soft or rich, deep and decadent.
The amazing thing about velvet is that you don’t need to use very much of it. One statement sofa in an eye catching colour using velvet fabric, is enough for most rooms. It will certainly create the wow factor. The same goes for a velvet headboard or curtains.
However, if you don’t feel brave enough for using velvet on a large item in your home, then just use it for your accessories. Mix and match cushions, use it on bedspreads or lampshades. Using velvet as an accent colour or fabric, works really well with other textures too.
